Although
he had surgery of the soft palate twice and surgery
of the hock once while still being at Jean-Pierre Dubois, Gobernador
was in the news when he was sold for FF2,400,000 to the Ecurie des Charmes last spring.
In spite of health problems which delayed his development,
he blossomed late in life with his new trainer, Pierre-Désiré Allaire who thinks highly of him. His path reminds one a little of
that of Grandpré,
who had an accident when still young,
and who showed his talent late.
Of
noble birth, Gobernador, a tough horse, fit and
eager, a pacesetter at Vincennes, is half-brother to Camino 1'13,
classic, by top stallion Buvetier d'Aunou
1'14.
The
latter was the top stallion in France last year, already
having produced many classics such as Ganymède 1'11,
Hermès du Buisson 1'14, Hello Jo 1'13, Install 1'13, Juliano Star 1'14 as well as Gobernador 1'11, and the good Go Lucky 1'14, Hasting 1'14, lvilla Blue 1'14, etc...
Winner
of Criteriums for 3- and
4-year-olds, 2nd to Ina Scot in the Grand Prix of the
UET, Buvetier d'Aunou
1'14 did not run many races (34) before retiring young
to the stud farm (4 years old), born of the American champion Royal Prestige (World Trotting Derby, 2nd place at the Hambletonian), a horse of noble birth (Speedy Crown and Rosemary, winner of Merrie
Annabelle Trot and of the exceptional broodmare Nesmile 1'17 (dam of
Défi d'Alinou 1'10, Buvetier d'Aunou
has a blood affinity
with Quioco.
This
affinity is primarily expressed by brothers Ganymède
and Halimède, as well
as by Install, Génois de Pouline, Grande Lady and Gobernador.
As the granddam of the latest, Mangala 1'20
(winner atVincennes and Enghien at 5 years old)
is in fact the daughter of Quioco 1'15. Quioco
(Criterium for 4-year-olds, Prix de Vincennes) has become an outstanding sire of
dams after being a great stallion.
Mangala
1'20 bred at the stud farm, foaling an excellent Abercrombie
1'12 (approximately 3,000,000 Francs in earnings), Game Jet 1'15, several times winner at Vincennes, Cindy Jet
1'16, also a winner
in Paris and, of course, Tangala 1'23 (retired in the country at 3 years old)
who foaled Gobernador.
Tangala 1'23 is daughter of the champion, Hymour
115 (Prix d'Amérique), a a very gifted horse, with great talent like his father Nonant le Pin,
who is an interesting sire of broodmares. His first daughters have also produced the Univers du Trianon 1'14, Hialca Speed 1'l5, James d'Autan 1'17 (m), First du Pont 1'14, Gratifying 1'15 as well as Camino 1'12 and Gobernador
1'11.
Before
Gobernador, Tangala produced Camino 1'12, classic, (male of Firstly) a small but very tough horse, with a long
career in the Criterium des Jeunes (2nd) at Prix d'Amérique (5th) followed by the Criterium for 5-year-olds (2nd), the
European Championship of 5-year-olds (1st) in Norway
and the Grand Prix continental (1st) at 4 in Italy, for a total of approximately
FF7,000, 000 in earnings.
An
excellent dam, Tangala has produced Ingala
1'14 (the sister of Gobernador)
who was at top form last
winter, obtaining three consecutive wins at Vincennes.
This female line goes
back to Lada 1'20
(4th dam of Gobernador) from whom recently descended the exceptional Karengada 1'16,
Canada 1'14 (stallion), Garda 1'16, etc...
Finally,
we must mention that Gobernador has a very
interesting inbreeding to his own brothers and sisters Jamin and Ninia.
(the bred champion Alpha Barbes
1'13 has the same).
